A European Adventure - Sam's Review

We recently caught up with Sam, member of our Holidays team, and a familiar face to many of our customers! He accompanied one of our European tours, Desirable Dolomites & Stunning South Tyrol (with Free Bar), and what an adventure he had. From marvelling at the breathtaking beauty of the Dolomites, to sampling local wines and delicacies, and discovering the charms of Riva, Sam made the most of every moment.

As Tour Manager, he played an important role in ensuring everything ran seamlessly – supporting Driver Liam, assisting guests, and making sure everyone felt well cared for throughout the journey.

Not only was Sam there to guide the group, he also had the chance to experience this spectacular tour first-hand… so naturally, we had to ask: how was it?

We caught up with him to hear all about the trip!

To start, could you give us an overview of the tour?
The Desirable Dolomites & Stunning South Tyrol tour is such an amazing experience, and I truly enjoyed every second of it with our customers. The photographs really don’t do this place of beauty justice – each location was just as breathtaking as the last.

What was your favourite moment from the tour? Was there a particular place or moment that really stood out to you?
If I had to pick one highlight from this outstanding itinerary, it would have to be the Stelvio Pass. This 360-degree, picturesque mountaintop view was a sight to behold – looking out over the Dolomites was incredible. It’s a must-see for anyone visiting the region.

What would be your top tip for people travelling with us on a European adventure?
My top tip would be to bring a good, firm neck pillow – it’s a small comfort that makes a big difference during the initial long drive to Dover and the first overnight hotel. I’d also recommend bringing plenty of spending money for souvenirs – there’s so much to choose from!

How was Fausto’s welcome at Hotel Paganella?
Fausto and his family were so lovely – they welcomed us with open arms and made us feel like part of their family. This warmth continued throughout our stay. One highlight was the village walk followed by wine and pizza in the local park – a truly special evening. Fausto and his family were always attentive, caring, and gave us a real insight into the Paganella way of life.

What was the best excursion on this trip?
In my opinion, Stelvio Pass was the best excursion – the views were truly unique and absolutely breathtaking. Lake Molveno was also a real treat, with its stunning light blue waters. It’s a must-visit for anyone who loves sightseeing and soaking up beautiful natural surroundings.

Do you have any funny or memorable moments from the trip to share with us?
On the final night, we enjoyed live music and dancing with Fausto’s family – it was such a joyful evening and definitely a standout moment for me!

Finally, what’s next on your travel bucket list – whether it’s with Roberts or you’re travelling solo?
The Dolomites tour was my last as a tour manager with Roberts – for now! – but I’m sure it won’t be the last. I’d love to go on our Austria tour one day, especially after driving through the country on our way to the mainstay hotel. I also look forward to tour managing our annual Roberts Reunion tour, which in 2026 will be heading to Paignton.
As it stands, I’ve not booked anything for 2025 yet, but I’m keeping my eyes peeled for something special in 2026. Any suggestions for where I should go next year?
