A European Adventure - Rachel's Review

We recently caught up with Rachel, a member of our Product Team, who accompanied one of our European tours - Bulbfields and Windmills: Tulips from Amsterdam. Rachel played a key role as Tour Host, ensuring the trip ran smoothly and that everyone was well looked after.

As well as assisting all those on board and guiding the group through their itinerary, Rachel also got to experience our Bulbfields and Windmills trip first hand. We caught up with her to find out how it went and hear about some of her highlights!

To start, could you give us an overview of the Bulbfields and Windmills tour you managed?
This was a fabulous tour, we stayed in the old part of The Hague which was the perfect base to visit the stunning Keukenhof Gardens and watch the flower parade, we also visited the pretty fishing town of Volendam and enjoyed the afternoon exploring the delights of Amsterdam.

What was your favourite moment from the tour? Was there a particular place or moment that really stood out to you?
Keukenhof Gardens are a sight to behold with 7 million spring-flowering bulbs that flower over an 8-week period. The flower beds are a riot of vibrant colours, its not just the colours that are stunning but also the floral smells – especially from the hyacinths. The work that goes into creating such beautiful eye-catching displays is incredible. I would definitely recommend a visit to Keukenhof.

What was the best excursion on this trip?
For me it was definitely Keukenhof Gardens.

What would be your top tip for people travelling with us on a European adventure?
Comfortable walking shoes - when it is a busy itinerary comfortable shoes are definitely needed!  For the coach – a neck pillow and snacks!

Were there any hidden gems or lesser-known spots you discovered that you’d recommend to future travellers?
In Keukenhof you can go on a boat trip  through the tulip fields but I would recommend that you book this in advance as it is very popular and you may not get on (I didn’t) .

In Volendam I would recommend sitting along the old harbour and watch the world go by whilst enjoying a slice of famous Volendam Cake.

In Amsterdam I would definitely recommend going on a Canal Cruise that you can get on at Central Station – this way you get to enjoy the canals and see the beautiful architecture and bridges that are Amsterdam.

What’s next on your travel bucket list - whether it’s with Roberts or you’re travelling solo?
There are so many trips I would like to go on and I do love to travel especially as a Tour Host. I would really like to go on the Christmas market trip we have going to the Belgian Christmas Markets in December and I also have my eye on our tour to Switzerland next March.
